  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

I was listening to NPR the other day and they were talking about Walmart's decision to stop selling semi-automatic rifles. I don't like guns, I would never have one in my home, but I am not crazy enough to say ALL guns need to be removed. I don't understand why someone would need lots of guns, but as long as they are just hand guns or regular rifles, I'm trying to be ok with that. Semi-automatic guns on the other hand have no reason to be here. If you are a "hunter" and you are so bad at it that you need a semi-automatic rifle to hit the animal, pick a new hobbie.

I didn't realize Walmart still sold guns. I can't remember seeing anything but air guns at Walmart but then I don't shop for automatic weapons. Maybe it's a California thing...

Good. This will divert business towards smaller independent business. Which is always a good thing.

    Wal-Mart sucks anyway....

A bolt action rifle can be more deadly than a semi-automatic.

Have you ever seen the movie 'Two-Minute Warning'???

Wal-Mart sells sub-standard guns. And there are many good reasons to own lots of guns...just not the crap from Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Cosco, Sam's etc...

Buying a gun from Wal-Mart is like buying your sweetheart an engagement ring from a gumball machine.

I own guns, but I own them for hunting and home defense. I don't own any semi-automatic rifles except my Ruger 10-22. That's just used for target practice. I prefer bolt action rifles.
People who own them for sport are generally your more responsible gun owners. It's the people that go out and buy a handgun for the sole purpose of carrying it that are the problem usually. They don't properly educate themselves on the use.

What are these "Many good reasons"? I am not an anti-gun fanatic, so we are not going down the "Ban all guns" road.** I would just like to know why someone would need more than 2-3 guns?

**Note: I am also not talking about old/ really old guns that are collectors pieces.

One reason to own that many guns is if you're a collector. Another is that if you're a hunter, in certain states and in certain parts of a season, you're only allowed to use a certain type of firearm.

Sigh, like it will do any good, here goes:
Handgun (.45 Wilson Combat) To protect me at night and when I drive, because the police can't.
12 ga over/under (Browning) To hunt dove, ducks, and geese.
7mm (Wildcat 416 Dacota necked down to 7mm) To hunt any fur bearing animal in North America, and most plains animals in Africa.
AR-15 .223 (Rock River Arms) To protect me and my neighbors from the government.
Handgun (.45 Wilson Combat) To protect the wife when she's not with me.
.20 Pellet gun (RWS sidecock) To kill pesky sparrows and protect my bluebirds and purple martins.

So there's six, twice to three times what you think I need. I have many more as backup to these.

This makes sense, I guess. My grandfather was an avid hunter originally from Wyoming then from Wisconsin. Hence lots of game to hunt all around. Every summer we would visit and for dinner there would be a different animal for dinner the ones he/ he and his hunting friends were responsible for were (Duck, antelope, geese, venison, pheasant, fish) I can't tell you how many times I have bitten down on 'buck shot' while at their house. But he only had two different kinds of rifles all his life buck shot-shot gun and a rifle that you had to load the bullets each shot. Now maybe he was just "old school" and these were what he grew up on/ with so that's what he was comfortable with.

Protection from the government? Is that REALLY a fear of yours? I mean really, as in they are going to come at any time and arbitrarily start shooting you and your neighbors for no reason? If you and your wife have guns, do you expect them to fail? Why would you need MANY MORE back ups? This is what I don't understand.

So you & your wife have a gun.
Pellet gun, understandable, I have some squirrels that I wish would go away.
    A variety of hunting guns.
    Why isn't that enough?

I have two .22's a henry survival rifle, for me when back packing, and a Cricket for the kids we bought from scouts to teach the kids gun safety.
I have a Lee Enfield .303 for the historic nostalgia.
I have .410 shot gun handed down to me more an heir loom then any thing.
I have 3 12 gauge shot guns a double barrel coach gun, a Remington 1100, and a Mossberg 500 for shooting skeet mostly
and I have a M14 .308 target shooting and hunting when I get into it.
and I plan to buy more probably a 1911 .45 for target shooting

Three of my guns are semi automatic and they are no more dangerous then any other action firearm that I own, all of them demand respect.

Its funny you mention hunters using the semi-auto, its likely people said the same thing when fire arms changed from muzzle loader to single shot cartridges then changed to magazine fed bolt action rifles. Any time there is advances made not only in firearms but with anything there are people opposed to it.

one thing I do disagree with is with rifles used as home defense. Rifles have a ton of power and can pass through a person, walls, and injury people on the street that you can't see.

Yes, govt's are dangerous. Look back 60 short years ago. It HAS HAPPENED, and it COULD happen again.
Always expect firearms to fail. Be elated when they don't. Quality firearms fail less often than Wat-mart firearms.
Obummer just tried to ban the .223 ammo, saying it was armor piercing blah blah blah. Now WHY WOULD HE DO THAT???
The .223 or 5.56 round is tiny.

A variety of hunting guns are complimented with a variety of protective guns, all with plenty of ammo.
I knew it was a waste of time...

You do realize that a semiautomatic rifle only fire once per each pull of the trigger. Also a wide range of rifles are semi-automatic not just those considered assault weapons do to how they look.

    This is a semi-automatic rifle

    *not_secure_link*www.guns.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/remington_model_8.jpg
    So is this

    *not_secure_link*www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/5cbb040410.gif

Would you consider these assault weapons unfit for hunting?

my Remington 1100 is semi auto. its a shot gun but I wouldn't consider it an assault weapon.

off point I guess though, I'm not to concerned about Wal-Mart, never bought a gun there before, I don't think Canada Wal-mart sells guns.

No, she didn't know what a semiautomatic is, she doesn't understand why you need more than 2-3 guns...
even when it was explained to her.

I suppose she thinks we hunt with select fire in full auto mode...
